Paul Leibow is an American artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, mixed media, and film. Trained at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he earned his BFA in 1983, Leibow also studied with legendary designer Milton Glaser, an influence that helped shape his enduring interest in graphic language, typography, and the visual culture of American design. His work often draws from signage, lettering, and popular imagery, transforming familiar symbols into bold compositions that bridge the worlds of fine art and graphic design.

Leibow’s interdisciplinary practice reflects a lifelong engagement with visual communication. Moving fluidly between painting, sculpture, and conceptual projects, he frequently reinterprets fragments of popular culture including logos, records, printed ephemera, and everyday objects, into artworks that explore memory, identity, and the layered imagery of American life. Alongside his studio practice, Leibow has worked extensively as a designer and creative collaborator, including producing artwork and visual materials for Bruce Springsteen’s world tours, where his graphics and imagery appeared in books, apparel, and tour-related publications.

Leibow’s work has been recognized in a variety of museum and institutional contexts. His documentary art film was included in the Program for Art on Film at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and his work has been selected for exhibitions and publications by curators associated with the Whitney Museum of American Art. In addition, Leibow was awarded a residency at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico, where he produced print editions that are archived in the New Mexico Museum of Art. His exhibitions have also included venues such as the Monmouth Museum and numerous galleries and juried shows across the United States.

Through a career that moves between art, design, and cultural production, Leibow continues to explore how graphic imagery embedded in everyday life can be reimagined as expressive contemporary art.
