Phyllis Rosser is an American sculptor whose work explores the expressive and meditative qualities of nature through found wood. For more than three decades, she has created wall-mounted assemblages from driftwood gathered along riverbanks and shorelines, allowing the natural grain, weathering, color, and irregularity of each piece to guide her compositions. Her sculptures balance gestural energy with quiet contemplation, transforming materials shaped by water and time into organic abstractions that speak to resilience, transformation, and the beauty of imperfection. Rosser’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout New York, New England, and New Jersey, and is held in public and corporate collections including the Smith College Museum of Art and Microsoft. Her intertwining forms have been compared by The New York Times critic Barry Schwabsky to the gestural brushwork of Abstract Expressionists Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning.
