In her high-energy mixed-media practice, Djamila Fierek constructs visually dense compositions that seem to buzz with clashing iconography. Within a single work, classical archetypes like angels and hearts share the frame with skeletal figures, desert flora, and graffiti tags. The unexpected juxtapositions of these paintings emerge from the geographic distance between Munich, Germany, and Scottsdale, Arizona, where Fierek splits her time. With the energy of European Pop Art on the one hand, and the freewheeling visual language of the American Southwest on the other, Fierek’s practice attempts to hold these forces in tension. She has exhibited extensively across the US, Germany, and internationally.
