My paintings are about the psychological exchanges that happen between people and the ways in which we perform our emotions.
–Jaqueline Cedar
Jaqueline Cedar (b. 1985, Los Angeles) is a Brooklyn‑based painter whose work blends figurative gestures with abstracted environments. She earned her MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2009, following a BA from UCLA where she first explored painting and photography. Cedar’s signature paintings often feature life‑size, elongated figures set within dream‑like fields of color and form. Her compositions are psychologically charged but elusive—figures seem to reach toward one another yet remain suspended in introspective tableaux.
Cedar’s work has been shown widely, including solo exhibitions at Steven Zevitas Gallery (Boston) and 106 Green Gallery (Brooklyn), as well as group exhibitions at BAM, Dutton Gallery, and Shelter Gallery. Her paintings have been featured in numerous publications and press outlets including Huffington Post, New American Paintings, The Boston Globe, Hyperallergic, and Artnet.
