Rob Ventura: Spira Mirabilis
"In Spira Mirabilis, Ventura transforms mathematical order into visual poetry—revealing the hidden spirals that bind nature, art, and the cosmos."
Kelly-McKenna Gallery is proud to announce Spira Mirabilis: Logarithmic Spirals in Nature, a solo exhibition by Rob Ventura, opening October 10, 2024. Featuring oil paintings, gouache on panel, charcoal drawings, and ceramic vessels, Ventura's exhibition delves into the beauty of natural patterns and mathematical harmony.
Born in 1989, Rob Ventura is a multidisciplinary artist known for his work exploring organic forms. With a background in painting, drawing, and ceramics, his art reflects a fascination with the Golden Ratio, Fibonacci sequence, and the Mandelbrot set, echoing mathematical phenomena in nature. Ventura studied at Boston University, earning his MFA in Painting and Drawing in 2013.
The exhibition focuses on Ventura’s interpretation of the logarithmic spiral, a form prevalent in nature and first described by mathematician Jacob Bernoulli as "Spira Mirabilis," or "miraculous spiral." The series highlights curvilinear flowers, honeycomb grids, and micro-organic shapes, emphasizing the spiral’s omnipresence in natural structures, from seashells to galaxies.
This exhibition showcases Ventura’s continued exploration of the intersection of art, design, and mathematics, offering a compelling narrative on how these forces shape our natural world. Spira Mirabilis provides visitors an immersive experience, allowing them to contemplate the intricate beauty that governs both the universe and Ventura’s artistic vision.
