Between sculpture, ceramics, and two-dimensional media, Jenny Day finds ways to cast the natural world, its inhabitants, and its materials in fantastical forms. From animals whose skins have been partially consumed by intricate bead work to moldy fruit made from stoneware, Day’s practice can often come across as whimsical. Though, having originally studied environmental science prior to receiving her MFA, she engages the entanglement between human and nonhuman worlds with gravity. In the same way a silly joke can reveal a hard truth, the humor of Day’s practice opens onto something more serious. She has exhibited extensively across the United States and internationally.
